Steeler Fans Against the War
by Linda Burrows Sunday, Jan. 26, 2003 at 11:25 AM
bogeymom@hotmail.com

The people in this photo have NEVER been to a Steeler game; it would be beneath their elitist, intellectual concept of a good time. They want to give the appearance that they are "regular" Pittsburghers but nothing could be further from the truth!

You're right Linda. I just wanted to thank you for depicting Pittsburghers as ignorant. And I mean, what are those silly protestors doing anyway? Why are they wasting their time opposing our government wasting several TRILLION, (yes, TRILLION) dollars invading a country that poses no immediate threat when we could be finding Osama (yeah, remember him) or developing education standards or rebuilding our crippled economy? I'm sorry, did that hurt your brain? I suppose I should just be a "true" Pittsburgher and raise up my pitcher of beer and bellow, "Go America!" You're right Linda. You're right.

Steelers Fans Against the War
by Luke Sunday, Jan. 26, 2003 at 12:20 PM

(Sorry to flip out, I just resent the implication that (1) being a Steelers fan and true Pittsburgher requires stupidity and blind Patriotism, and (2) that opposition to this war is anyway elitist. Ironically, what we're protesting IS elitism - this gimmicky post- 9/11-Americana-bullshit that seems to have made everyone comfortable with us spending ANY amount of money fighting ANYONE for ANY reason.)

sure, Linda
by coyote Sunday, Jan. 26, 2003 at 12:22 PM

you know everyone who has ever attended a Steelers game? if you say so.
your remark also emplies you know all of the protestors personally and a statisticaly significant per centage of average Pittsburg residents, and can offer a meaningful definition of "average"..
Does that much knowledge hurt?

Get it Straight
by Linda Burrows Sunday, Jan. 26, 2003 at 3:34 PM
bogeymom@hotmail.com

Hmm interesting how you criticize me of making assumptions from photos but blatantly engage in the act yourself and distort my message. I never voiced a pro-war jingoist position; in fact I am anti-war like the protestors portrayed in the image. However, in my dealings with leftist-anarcho-academic types (what many people in the photo resemble to me, if I'm wrong then shoot me), despite the Marxist egalitarianism that is spewed forth, there is often a despisement for the lower class; included in this despisement is implications of ignorance, redneckism, and jingoism on the lower class' part. And this is how I construe the Steelers fan protest; a protest against war under the ironic tongue-in-cheek guise of a cultural group who, in many leftist eyes, would typically support the war. I am only knocking the particular protestors in the photo, not the anti-war movement at large, Steelers fans, or anything else. Get it straight.

amazing...
by FireCowher Monday, Jan. 27, 2003 at 1:55 PM

Oddly enough, Linda, I happen to be a huge Steeler fan and have been to a few of the games. I'm sorry you're too narrow to appreciate the diversity of their fans. Maybe you should get out of your house a little more and maybe even catch a game yourself. You might even accidentally make a friend... that is, unless your presumptuousness scares everyone away. I am holding the "What Would Jerome Bettis Do?" I'll thank you to eat your words and fight a battle against war rather than something you don't understand.

Eeeewwww, Linda knows how to use a dictionary.
I am dazzled by her stunning use of the english language. Her wordy accusations has made me
change my mind. I now hate the Steelers Bloc as
much as she does.

double yoy!!! going to a game is elitist
by jc Monday, Jan. 27, 2003 at 6:39 PM

i've been to one game...and it cost a pretty penny. the tens of thousands of people who fit in heinz field are not the only steeler's fans. they are the steeler's fans who can afford expensive tickets. there are hundreds of thousands of people who tune into the games via television (with the volume off and dve on the radio with cope for audio, of course)

Football yipee!!!
by Mymicz Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2003 at 8:00 AM
amatex@covad.net

I'm a Ditka fan personally so I haven't watched football in a while but even though the Bears, and every other Chi town team suck, It's about time people realized that we would have all the sporting equipment we needed for our schools and a lot more sexy football players if the Army could keep it's budget down, I mean how many times can you blow up the world? Can't they just consolidate bombs? I wouldn't put the NFL on the list of people to get the extra cash but, a lot of little boys, and girls will be having fun in gyms

by krystyna Thursday, Jan. 30, 2003 at 9:00 AM

well linda im glad to see that you were not "knocking the movement" and that you are only knocking those particular protesters in the photo (though we are a major part of the movement)- i am in the photo and you know nothing about me, so keep your mouth shut until you know what you are talking about - by the way email trash talk is ridiculous and you need to get out more - maybe ill see you next year at the super bowl when the steelers go all the way
balls not bombs for ever

Go Browns
by Harry Balsonya Thursday, Apr. 08, 2004 at 10:38 PM

There should be a law against that many mentally handicapped people in the same place at the same time.

The "y'unz" sign was classic. You people truly are morons. Not for the anti-war stuff but just for being Steelers fans in general.

Go Browns!

Great poster promoting birth control, tube tying, castration, not attempting to get pregnant after 35 (down syndrome risks are much higher), and all other negative side effects to not bathing. Pittsburgh blows... what would Jerome Bettis do? Probably take a fire hose and lye treatment to all you scumbags. Do all of the ugly hippies move to Pittsburgh. they say California is the land of fruit and nuts, well pennsylvania must be the land of lepers. Go Browns!

Yea!!! this is great
by Damian Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2006 at 2:37 PM

Wow hahaha the comments against this are so ignorant its not even funny. The Steelers are a great team, and thats why they are going to the superbowl. I love the Steelers, I am also the only weirdo in the world who also loves the browns. But sorry the browns haven't done anything for YEARS!. Because all of Clevelands sports teams get a good player and then sell them. All they are converned about is money. So when the browns make it to the superbowl again. then you can say the steelers suck. That is if the Steelers aren't playing them. And beating them!!!! but I love this photo. This war is a horrible thing. Its starting to look horrifically like vietnam. And its completely unjust. THEY NEVER FOUND WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION. OSAMA BIN LADEN IS NOT IN IRAQ!!!! BUSH JUST GAVE UP LOOKING FOR OSAMA , AND DECIDED TO FINISH WHAT HIS DADDY STARTED, AND KNEW THAT THE RIGHT WING AMERICANS (WHO ARE THE MAJORITY) WERE STUPID ENOUGH TO GO ALONG WITH IT.!!!! So go Steelers, and Go all you brave people . I love you and would have been right there with you , if I wasnt protesting the war in Ohio at the time.
